Meet March’s Coalition Member of the Month: Liz Keller

03/01/2019

March’s Coalition Member of the Month is Liz Keller, representing our Youth-Serving Sector since 2015. Liz works as the Community Relations Specialist and Camps Coordinator for the Riverhead Recreation Department. She enjoys managing youth programming, working on the Special Events Committee, and running summer recreation. She finds children challenging and refreshing, and works hard to make our community an active and fun place to raise families.

As a former Pre-K teacher, and then Secondary English Teacher, Liz has a wide range of experiences and is happiest engaging in hands-on projects and programs with our local youth. She believes in community outreach, and in the proverb “it takes a village to raise a child.” Liz is an active board member for The Butterfly Effect Project, a local nonprofit, and participates on Riverhead Town’s Anti-Bias Task Force. In her spare time, she and her husband like to travel and visit our National Parks. She is an avid gardener, book enthusiast, home cook, handy with tools, and a beach person.

For the past four years, Liz Keller has been a committed member of the Riverhead Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth. She is a key contributor to many of our coalition’s successful initiatives and has successfully worked to help reduce youth substance use at community parks and beaches through a variety of strategies. She also serves as the co-chair of the Meet & Greet Committee and is always up for the challenge of tackling new projects that promote a safe and drug-free community. Riverhead Community Coalition Coordinator Kelly Miloski recently sat down with Liz to talk about her experience with the coalition.

Here are the highlights:
  • Why did you get involved in the coalition?
“I got involved in the coalition because I believe in its mission and I have a passion for promoting a healthy environment for youth in our community. I enjoy working with youth and others in our community so the coalition seemed like a natural partnership to me.”
    • What is your favorite coalition activity?
“I can’t choose just one! I have a love/hate relationship with our Annual Jeopardy Holiday Party (it’s so much fun… but the competition gets intense!!). I also love the Pre-Prom event, our annual Meet and Greet, and of course CAP’s Annual Bowling Bonanza.”
    • Name three words that best describe you.
    “Hardworking, patient, considerate.”
    • Besides coalition work, what else do you like to do?
“I love to travel with my husband, we enjoy doing cross country road trips. I also love going to the beach, reading, and spending time with my family.”
