RYC Presentation at Suffolk County Legislature
Date: Thursday June 13
Location: Suffolk County Legislature Maxine S. Postal Auditorium of the Evans K. Griffing Building (300 Center Drive, Riverhead).
Members of the Riverhead Youth Coalition (RYC) are invited by Dr. William Spencer & the Suffolk County Legislature to do a special presentation about ENDS/vaping to the Health Committee on Thursday, June 13th at 2:30. During the presentation, youth coalition members will discuss the dangers of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) and vapes, and the negative consequences that vaping has on our community. Dr. Spencer requested the presentation to assist the members with developing legislation regarding ENDS products. This was a direct result of the meeting the students recently had with Legislators Krupski and Fleming.
This event will take place in lieu of our monthly meeting. As a result, we are asking coalition members to attend. We also encourage community members to attend as well.
The presentation will take place in Riverhead in the Suffolk County Legislature’s Maxine S. Postal Auditorium of the Evans K. Griffing Building (300 Center Drive, Riverhead). Please bring identification with you in order to enter the building.
about the Riverhead Youth Coalition
The goal of the Riverhead Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth is to prevent alcohol and other drug use among youth and promote a safe and healthy community. The Riverhead Youth Coalition (RYC) plays a key role in the larger coalition. RYC works predominantly on community-based, environmental strategies. These strategies aim to change conditions that contribute to underage drinking and drug use. Often times this involves reducing accessibility to these substances through partnerships with law enforcement, businesses and government officials.
Through their leadership skills, RYC members also create positive change in the Riverhead community by raising awareness about the risks and consequences of drug and alcohol abuse among youth. RYC has made prevention and reduction of teen vaping a top priority in their action plan.
The next regularly scheduled coalition meeting will take place on Thursday, July 11th at 2:30 PM in the Peconic Room of the Hyatt Place East End/LI. You can also access the previous month’s minutes on our Documents Page, here.
